We’ve been deeply divided in our interests the past two weeks.
AV is fascinated with nudibranches and has been researching them extensively. This is a fascination he had as a young child when we lived in FL. The University of Miami has an amazing research lab looking at using their toxins/ink in dealing with kidney failure. Totally worth the trip.
His websites:
The Guanacaste Nudibranch Project – has excellent drawings and simple explanations
Wet Web Media – relatively reliable information and lots of photos showing the diversity of the various families
Sergi’s Photo Gallery – nice summary with lots of photos
National Geographic’s Nudibranch Page – AV was very interested in how the photos were acquired
Jean Custeau’s Web Page – Provided some new information
Margaret Wertheim at TED – We watched this amazing video yesterday. It covers geometry, calculus, crocheting, and nudibranches and corals. Really, take the time to watch this. It won’t go over your head. But it will challenge you to think about math differently.
BR is very interested in Squid and Octipods and has been writing a paper on these creatures.
Ocean Planet Site – Giant Squid comparative information
The Cephalopod Page – great overview of the topic
National Resource Center for Cephalopods – This site has good line art of anatomy
Coral Sea Examples and Research – examples from the Coral Sea area
Smithsonian Detailed Taxonomy – PDF document UPDATED
Overall helpful to us in any research: UPDATED
Tree of Life – Taxonomy and information on all life
Invertebrate Online Anatomy – Professor Fox’s site – WOW!
